CNG vehicles
CNG offers many benefits for the driver, starting from lower fuel costs and ending with making a better choice for the sake of the environment. As CNG offers all the great benefits, the popularity of CNG vehicles has grown considerably over the last decade. Let’s see some of the popular CNG vehicle types below.
CNG cars
Passenger CNG cars are usually bivalent. Bivalent means that the car is equipped with two tanks for one engine: one tank for gasoline and another tank for CNG. Once the car has used the default CNG the power system will automatically switch to using petrol. After CNG refueling, the car starts to use the CNG again and the same process is repeated. Since the car engine is designed to be able to burn either gasoline or CNG, it ensures a comfortable driving range and minimizes the risk of running out of fuel.
CNG trucks
As CNG is known for being inexpensive, a lot of fleet managers are thinking of using a CNG truck for long distance driving. For a CNG truck, CNG is usually stored in multiple CNG cylinders, typically placed on a frame behind the cabin of the vehicle or on the sides of the truck. The CNG fuel system transfers high-pressure CNG from the CNG cylinder through fuel lines into the combustion chamber, where CNG gets mixed with air, then compressed and ignited by a spark plug. There are also CNG trucks like Scania whose engines can be fueled with both, CNG and Biogas.
CNG buses
More cities worldwide are transitioning their public transportation fleets from diesel-powered buses to CNG buses to lower the levels of nitrogen oxide and greenhouse gas emissions. Also, CNG engines are up to 10 decibels quieter compared to a diesel engine, helping to improve the harmful noise levels in cities. In addition to the benefits mentioned, CNG buses are quite similar to diesel vehicles regarding power, acceleration and cruising speed, making switching to CNG buses very reasonable.
CNG is a great alternative to gasoline and diesel, having many benefits for the environment, the vehicle and the wellbeing of surrounding people. In addition to the mentioned CNG vehicles, CNG is used for almost every possible vehicle type, so when looking for a new vehicle, you might want to consider the CNG ones.
